Fairtrade Fortnight 2013 will be all about baking; it’s rather a food orientated theme, but on the other hand we have often likened making good organic skincare to baking a cake, both in terms of the process and the quality of hand-made.

Mindful of our commitment to sustainability and the need to minimise our carbon footprint, we try to strike a balance through our relationship with growers, by sourcing locally where possible and through fair trade organisations when we need to buy outside the UK and Europe.  This article talks fully about our choices and why we do not carry the Fairtrade mark on all of our products.

We were lucky enough to interview Katie Franks as part of our Fairtrade fortnight programme of events and activities.  Katie is a Commercial Development Officer for the Fairtrade foundation and she talks us through who the Fairtrade foundation are, their aims, the challenges of working to Fairtrade standards and what is coming up in the future.  A sample of the questions are below, to read the whole interview view our Katie Franks Interview PDF.

We (and most specifically Margaret / Mum) have always taken a huge interest in the provenance of our ingredients. Margaret works closely with our suppliers on each new batch of oils, butters and extracts we buy, ensuring the therapeutic properties are as good as they can be. For that reason we came to know a lot about our growers and understand their needs, including those in the developing world.  In this article we discuss those needs and our commitment to meeting them, as well as what it means to be Fairtrade certified.
